Baby G, born at only 31 weeks of gestation, came into the world with underperforming lungs.  He spent several weeks in our Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit with a ventilator providing critical respiratory support, whilst the medical team monitored his weight gain and general progress. Happily, he was able to leave the hospital in good health and breathing completely on his own.

Over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic – and particularly at the peak of each new wave – many nervous new parents preferred to deliver their babies at Shaare Zedek’s Bikur Cholim campus, supported by JCD. This was because no Covid department was opened there, hence the chances of coming into contact with the virus were smaller.  The dependence of Jerusalem residents on Bikur Cholim reached new heights during 2020 and into 2021. We are greatly appreciative to have been able to rely on many of the equipment pieces purchased through Jewish Child’s Day support to respond to this increased activity and ensure that these infants and their parents could receive the optimal high-level care that is Shaare Zedek’s trademark.
